THIS TRIP IS NOW FULL.  PLEASE CONTACT US ABOUT ANOTHER TRIP.

My name is Angie Reed. I live in Indianola, Iowa with my husband and two boys. I am America World’s Director of Social Services for the State of Iowa, helping families prepare for adoption stateside. I first felt the call to One Orphan mission trips in 2016. Most of my families adopt through China and God made it very clear that was a trip he wanted me to do. I fell in love and was drawn to more. My first trip to Ethiopia was in the fall of 2017. During that trip, I again fell in love. God has placed orphans on my heart and a great desire to follow the call in James 1:29 to visit them in their affliction.

I am excited to add Uganda to this time! God is doing amazing things in the lives of orphans around the world. I cannot wait to be His hands and feet in both Ethiopia and Uganda, with a heart that will be molded to mirror His. My prayer for this trip is that hearts will be changed towards adoption, children will feel and see the love of Jesus through us, and we will be able to have an eternal impact of the lives of everyone we encounter.

COUNTRY DESCRIPTIONS

Uganda:
Uganda is An East African country bordered by South Sudan, DRC, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Kenya, Uganda is often associated with violence, abject poverty, child soldiers, and widespread communicable diseases. According to the 2012 UNICEF in Uganda report, the country is, however, experiencing growth in development—“The under-five mortality rate is dropping steadily, families are rising above the poverty line, and the economy is growing.” With a population over 33 million, half of Ugandan’s are under the age of 18 and 1.2 million are estimated to be orphaned by AIDS alone. Less than half of the child population is protected from malaria and Uganda continues to be ranked as one of the 30 countries in the world with the highest death rate of children under 5 years of age.

One Orphan mission teams will be working to combat these statistics, visiting our orphanage and ministry partners in the country.

Ethiopia:
With a population of over 91 million people, there is an assorted collection of food, languages, customs and people groups. Ethiopia also contains a diverse landscape, including parts of the Nile River and the Great Rift Valley. As an East African landlocked country, Ethiopia is bordered by Somalia, Kenya, Sudan, Eritrea, and Djibouti.

Ethiopia, an ancient Christian nation, has deep-rooted Ethiopian Orthodox customs and practices. The Judaic-Christian roots of Ethiopia can be found in both the Hebrew and Christian scriptures. Today, about half the population of Ethiopia is Christian.

Ethiopia is a country that is about twice the size of Texas and has an estimated 4.3 million orphans. The children are primarily orphaned due to poverty, and live in both government-run and privately established orphanages. The need is great in Ethiopia.

America World partners with many orphanages in Ethiopia. It is at these orphanages that our One Orphan teams visit and work to help provide education, resources, and support for the on-going
