Kyrgyzstan Mission Trip Background:

It is bounded by Kazakhstan on the northwest and north, by China on the east and south, and by Tajikistan and Uzbekistan on the south and west. Most of Kyrgyzstan’s borders run along mountain crests. The capital is Bishkek. America World Kyrgyzstan mission trip members will travel and work in baby homes and children’s homes. Many of the children who live in these homes have moderate to severe medical and physical needs. Teams will also have the opportunity to advocate for children who need a forever family.

About Our Leader:

My name is Heather Stanghellini and I live in White Plains, NY. I have been married to my best friend for 22 years. I am the mother of three daughters. Each of these daughters was born in China. In 2014 my husband David and I talked about orphan care, and what more we could do. He answered the call to lead an ACT Mission trip to China and before we knew it, our family was planning a trip that would change the way we looked at service in our family.

The following year, two weeks after David returned from his second service trip to China, my first daughter, a sixth grader at the time, and I, traveled with a Storyteller team to serve in the same province where she was born. I was humbled and privileged to spend time with the children who longed for and deserve, families of their own. We met babies, toddlers, and older children. I held a baby who was newly arrived and looked into her eyes and knew she deserved more. The sight of my first daughter playing with these sweet children was one I would never forget. She was an orphan no more, and her presence and the love she poured on those children gave hope to them, and their caregivers. We returned home feeling that a part of our heart would always remain in that orphanage, and with a desire and purpose to advocate the best we could for those children. While our original motivation was to serve in the country of our daughters’ birth, we have found our focus widening to serving orphans in other countries.

My husband has taken subsequent service trips to Haiti and I’m excited to be leading a team to Kyrgyzstan and look forward to sharing our journey with our home community and the many people discerning adoption. I’d never contemplated that I would ever travel to this beautiful country. This is a leap of faith for me. Would you consider taking a leap of faith, and go serve in a country you’ve never been? Together we can be a part of the first team to give love and hope to the orphans, and advocate for them when we return. There is a need and there is much to be done, come be a part of this new adventure!
