Jamaica – Motsinger

Hello! We are Chris and Rachelle, we are Haiti adoptive parents in waiting. We have been extraordinarily blessed with two biological kiddos and are currently adopting from Haiti through America World. Starting the process in 2018 and still waiting for a referral, we were called to work during the wait. After all, “Those that wait on the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.” (Isaiah 40:31)

We joined a Haiti mission team led by adoption champion Toni Benton. To our surprise, due to Haiti’s instability and travel restrictions, God redirected our trip to the Jamaican Deaf Village.

At the Jamaican Deaf Village, our hearts were changed forever. Fellowship with the missionaries and deaf community there was such a joy that we were overwhelmed with a calling to return. Working alongside our friends at the JDV helped us understand some of the struggles of life with a special need in an under-resourced country.  Being deaf or hard of hearing is a small difference in an otherwise typical life.  Yet deafness isolates people in a very big way. We hope to show the hope and love of Christ to individuals and families in Jamaica.

Pray about joining our team. Please don’t be intimidated if you don’t know sign language because we don’t either. Chris knew the least and in asking a dog to sit was actually asking the dog’s name but the dog was forgiving and did indeed eventually sit.  It was a perfect example of the grace and kindness shown by our friends at the JVD.
