INDIA MISSION TRIP BACKGROUND:
India is one of the oldest civilizations in the world with a kaleidoscopic variety and rich cultural heritage. It has achieved all-round socio-economic progress during the last 70 years of its Independence. As the 7th largest country in the world, India stands apart from the rest of Asia, marked off as it is by mountains and the sea, which gives the country a distinct geographical entity. Bounded by the Great Himalayas in the north, it stretches southwards and at the Tropic of Cancer, tapers off into the Indian Ocean between the Bay of Bengal on the east and the Arabian Sea on the west.
India also has a large number of orphans. Children may be orphaned in India due to poverty, disease, family or personal issues. India follows the best practices and standards according to the Hague adoption guidelines to try to reunite the child with their biological family if at all possible, and when not possible to seek a domestic and then international adoptive family.
ABOUT THE LEADERS
Martha has served in orphanages in China since 2009. She has led and co-led several trips and finds great joy in seeing team members use their gifts and skills to serve and love vulnerable children. Melinda first served in China in 2015 where her heart was broken for the orphan. Since then she has returned and co-led a team with Martha. Together they want to be a voice for the orphan and truly show love to these precious children in India.
