About the Team Leader:
Hi, my name is Diane Hood.  I am the director of social services for the state of Georgia, and I have worked for AWAA for five years. Adoption has always been my passion, but I’ve only recently felt called to missions, so this is my first trip with One Orphan.  I have heard it said that God does not call the equipped; He equips the called.  I am leaning heavily on that as my strength and inspiration, as I know only through His power is this trip possible.  If you have ever felt God stirring you to step out of your comfort zone and serve the people and children of Haiti, I invite you to step out in faith and join me.  It’s going to be a life-changing trip and your faith will be challenged and grown.  You will never be the same. Haiti:
Haiti is a beautiful, mountainous Caribbean country with a tropical climate that occupies the western third of the island of Hispaniola, which it shares with the Dominican Republic. While previously a French colony, Haiti declared its independence in 1804 as the first black republic. The country of Haiti is slightly smaller than the state of Maryland with a population of approximately 9.5 million people. Haiti was once one of the wealthiest colonies in the Caribbean largely based on its forestry and sugar-related industries. Due to deforestation, erosion, political unrest and natural disasters, Haiti is currently the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, with approximately 80% of the population living under the poverty line and more than 50% of them living in extreme poverty.

The people of Haiti are vibrant, hopeful people with a rich heritage. Children typically enter orphanages/creches in Haiti because of poverty, parental abandonment, and neglect. One Orphan Mission teams work alongside orphanages to both interact/nurture the children and assist with any projects that are needed.
