Haiti – Benton

Trip Dates:

December 26, 2018 - January 1, 2019

Estimated Cost: $2,100 - $2,400
Team Leader: Toni Benton

Toni Benton and her husband, Bill, are the blessed parents of eight children—seven of whom were adopted from China. Never in their wildest dreams did they imagine all God had planned, but they are thrilled beyond measure (Eph. 3:20-21). Toni’s passion for orphan care continues in her desire to visit orphans, to love and care for them in the name of Jesus (James 1:27), and to assist families in considering the adoption of the precious children she and her teams have visited (Psalm 68:5-6).

The plan for this specific trip is to run a Vacation Bible School over Christmas vacation, similar to a summertime VBS. Telling of the different Christmas Bible stories (angel visits, Bethlehem, stable, shepherds, wise men, etc), arts/crafts, music, recreation, etc… while also making repairs and providing for some material needs at the orphanage, all hopefully brightening the days of the children living there and waiting for their families.

Toni has traveled to China 10 times on adoption trips, as well as mission trips, and this will be her 4th time leading a team to Haiti. Each time, God builds the perfect team for the plans He has for that season. Toni welcomes you to prayerfully consider whether God is leading you to join her team this Christmas break. Contact her here to ask any questions you might have.

Haiti:
Haiti is a beautiful, mountainous Caribbean country with a tropical climate that occupies the western third of the island of Hispaniola, which it shares with the Dominican Republic. While previously a French colony, Haiti declared its independence in 1804 as the first black republic. The country of Haiti is slightly smaller than the state of Maryland with a population of approximately 9.5 million people. Haiti was once one of the wealthiest colonies in the Caribbean largely based on its forestry and sugar-related industries. Due to deforestation, erosion, political unrest and natural disasters, Haiti is currently the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, with approximately 80% of the population living under the poverty line and more than 50% of them living in extreme poverty.

The people of Haiti are vibrant, hopeful people with a rich heritage. Children typically enter orphanages/creches in Haiti because of poverty, parental abandonment, and neglect. One Orphan Mission teams work alongside orphanages to both interact/nurture the children and assist with any projects that are needed.
