ABOUT OUR LEADERS:
Hi! My name is Danielle Jackson and I have been married to my husband, Jonathan, for almost twenty years. We have four beautiful children: two girls and two boys. In February 2017, we adopted our youngest son from China. Since our adoption, God has increased my desire to do more for orphans. I experienced my first mission trip to Ethiopia in April 2018.
On this trip, we served in a baby/toddler orphanage and also in a teenage girl orphanage. I knew I would enjoy being around babies, but I was fearful that serving in a teenage orphanage would be a challenge. God changed my heart immediately! The connections I made there, with those precious girls that I thought would be so intimidating, surprised me. They turned out to be some of the most wonderful and engaging people I’ve ever met! I was eager to return to Ethiopia in December 2018 and had the privilege of going again in May 2019. I am so excited and humbled to have the opportunity to lead a team and to show our Father’s love for these beautiful children.
John 3:17-18 says, “But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him? Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.” I assure you, that if you open your heart to these children, God will work amazingly in you and through you.
My name is Angela LaPlace and I live in the upstate of South Carolina with my husband of almost 19 years and our two boys. I went on my first international mission trip to Costa Rica in 2002. Since that time, God had instilled in me a desire to care for orphans in Africa but I never understood how to walk in it until he opened the door for me, and my oldest son, to go on a One Orphan Mission Trip in April of 2018. I was wrecked, changed, and full of passion to advocate for the children we came to love there and found myself returning home but unable to walk away.
We’ve been a part of opening Bete Hosanna, the One Orphan transition home for girls, and I’ve since returned to Ethiopia with America World two more times with a 4th trip scheduled for December of 2019.
It is one of the greatest honors of my life to be a conduit of Christ’s love and to advocate for these precious children. It has changed our lives and I know it will be life-changing for you!
ETHIOPIA:
With a population of over 91 million people, there is an assorted collection of food, languages, customs, and people groups. Ethiopia also contains a diverse landscape, including parts of the Nile River and the Great Rift Valley. As an East African landlocked country, Ethiopia is bordered by Somalia, Kenya, Sudan, Eritrea, and Djibouti.
Ethiopia, an ancient Christian nation, has deep-rooted Ethiopian Orthodox customs and practices. The Judaic-Christian roots of Ethiopia can be found in both the Hebrew and Christian scriptures. Today, about half the population of Ethiopia is Christian.
Ethiopia is a country that is about twice the size of Texas and has an estimated 4.3 million orphans. The children are primarily orphaned due to poverty, and live in both government-run and privately established orphanages. The need is great in Ethiopia.
America World partners with many orphanages in Ethiopia. It is at these orphanages that our One Orphan teams visit and work to help provide education, resources, and support for the on-going care provided by the orphanage staff.
