Hello! I am Ashley Bruce, and I have lived in southern Kentucky my entire life. It is where my husband of 15 years and I, raise our two outdoor-loving boys. I am beyond grateful and humbled by the opportunity to serve in Ethiopia again. Having been a member of and led teams to both Ethiopia and Uganda, has provided experiences with the Father that has changed my life and transformed my heart in ways only He can!
I just recently returned from Ethiopia where I was able to spend several days visiting the girls at Bete Hosanna. This house provides more than just shelter for girls aging out of the government orphanage. During my time there I saw a rescue story with encouragement and hope rising out of unimaginably hard stories among ten amazing, talented and beautiful girls. A story of the likes I knew God could only be writing and orchestrating. Like any of the rescue stories we read and know well in the Bible, this one includes God’s providential hand and the use of unlikely people to accomplish His plans. I saw God’s immeasurable grace and pursuit of every precious child He has created.
I look forward to returning and being a part of serving the girls in whatever capacity He would provide. They are worth it. Join me!
Ethiopia:
With a population of over 91 million people, there is an assorted collection of food, languages, customs and people groups. Ethiopia also contains a diverse landscape, including parts of the Nile River and the Great Rift Valley. As an East African landlocked country, Ethiopia is bordered by Somalia, Kenya, Sudan, Eritrea, and Djibouti.
Ethiopia, an ancient Christian nation, has deep-rooted Ethiopian Orthodox customs and practices. The Judaic-Christian roots of Ethiopia can be found in both the Hebrew and Christian scriptures. Today, about half the population of Ethiopia is Christian.
Ethiopia is a country that is about twice the size of Texas and has an estimated 4.3 million orphans. The children are primarily orphaned due to poverty, and live in both government-run and privately established orphanages. The need is great in Ethiopia.
America World partners with many orphanages in Ethiopia. It is at these orphanages that our One Orphan teams visit and work to help provide education, resources, and support for the on-going care provided by the orphanage staff.
