Ethiopia Heritage Trip – Nicki Klein

Trip Dates:

December 26, 2021 - January 5, 2022

Estimated Cost: $3,100 - $3,400
Team Leader: Nicki Klein

America World is pleased to offer our third annual Ethiopia Heritage Trip! This trip is geared specifically toward families who have adopted children from Ethiopia.  This unique trip will combine heritage activities/excursions and service opportunities. Parents and their children will have the opportunity to work with several outreach programs and our transitional home Bete Hosanna. Our goal is to give families an opportunity to give back and interact with those in need in this beautiful country while reconnecting their children with the amazing Ethiopian culture. This trip is a great opportunity for a parent and child, or even the whole family!

Our Leader:

My name is Nicki Klein.  I am married to Justin, and we have four children, two of whom we adopted from Ethiopia.  Ever since bringing our children home to Oklahoma, we have made plans to return to Ethiopia to show them their heritage.  Educating our children in their culture, giving them opportunities to be on mission for the Lord, and growing more connected as a family, is our desire.  We believe in the high-value God places on orphans and vulnerable children and are thrilled to partner with Him in serving side by side with other families like ours.

Ethiopia:

With a population of over 91 million people, there is an assorted collection of food, languages, customs, and people groups. Ethiopia also contains a diverse landscape, including parts of the Nile River and the Great Rift Valley. As an East African landlocked country, Ethiopia is bordered by Somalia, Kenya, Sudan, Eritrea, and Djibouti.

Ethiopia, an ancient Christian nation, has deep-rooted Ethiopian Orthodox customs and practices. The Judaic-Christian roots of Ethiopia can be found in both the Hebrew and Christian scriptures. Today, about half the population of Ethiopia is Christian.

Ethiopia is a country that is about twice the size of Texas and has an estimated 4.3 million orphans. The children are primarily orphaned due to poverty, and live in both government-run and privately established orphanages. The need is great in Ethiopia.

America World partners with many orphanages in Ethiopia. It is at these orphanages that our One Orphan teams visit and work to help provide education, resources, and support for the ongoing care provided by the orphanage staff.
