Ethiopia – Fricke

Trip Dates:

July 20, 2018 - July 29, 2018

Estimated Cost: $3,000 - $3,300*
Team Leader: Gretchen Fricke

Gretchen and her husband have 2 children, including one through adoption from China.  Gretchen has been a member of and led AWAA teams to both China and Ethiopia.  On her first trip to Ethiopia, she fell in love with the Ethiopian people and feels called to do MORE.  The poverty and life circumstances in Ethiopia are staggering.  Christ followers are called to serve the orphans and widows (James 1:27).

Our goal on this trip is to bring a Vacation Bible School program to 2 orphanages and AWAA’s sponsorship families.  One of the orphanages we pray to be allowed to serve in is a government-run orphanage for young ladies aged 8-18.  We hope to bring Bible stories, crafts, music, fun and pampering to these young people.

If you are at all intrigued by what you’ve heard about this trips, I urge you to say YES.  These trips will break your heart in a way that will forever change your life in a positive way.

With a population of over 91 million people, there is a diverse collection of food, languages, customs and people groups in Ethiopia. The country also contains a unique landscape, including parts of the Nile River and the Great Rift Valley. As an East African landlocked country, Ethiopia is bordered by Somalia, Kenya, Sudan, Eritrea, and Djibouti.

Ethiopia, an ancient Christian nation, has deep-rooted Ethiopian Orthodox customs and practices. The Judaic-Christian roots of Ethiopia can be found in both the Hebrew and Christian scriptures. Today, about half the population of Ethiopia is Christian.

Ethiopia is a country that is about twice the size of Texas has an estimated 4.3 million orphans. The children are primarily orphaned due to poverty, and live in both government-run and privately established orphanages. The need is great in Ethiopia, especially in light of the recent termination of international adoption.

Our One Orphan teams partner with many orphanages in Ethiopia. It is at these orphanages that the One Orphan teams visit and work to help provide education, resources, and support for the ongoing care provided by the orphanage staff.
