A Mother’s Day Note
While traveling through Texas this week for work, I sat down with Lisa Chynoweth, our Director of Social Services for Texas. I was inspired and challenged by the conversation we had and I wanted to share it with you in honor of Mother’s Day.
“As someone who was orphaned as a child and now as a mom, I have a unique perspective on Mother’s Day. Growing up and into adulthood Mother’s Day messages at church always seemed to assume that everyone in the congregation had a wonderful, nurturing mother, and excluded those who perhaps had an abusive, absent or negligent mom or no mother at all. I felt alienated on days like this and I think for years I wondered if I was the only one who felt that way.
