Valuable Resources: Trauma Informed Parenting Podcast
Creating a Family is a great resource for foster and adoptive families. As part of their support, they do a regular podcast radio program.
They recently interviewed Amanda Purvis from the Karyn Purvis Institute of Child Development on Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI). I thought that this was a wonderful podcast and wanted to share it with all of you!
You may have heard America World talk about TBRI before. This podcast explains what TBRI is and gives practical examples of how it can be applied. A range of behaviors are discussed from tantrums, stealing, lying, homework struggles, and more. The three main principle of TBRI are connecting, empowering, and correction.
Many parents note that connecting and empowering can be difficult in the midst of difficult behaviors. It’s easy to go straight to the correction piece, but Amanda explains how the TBRI principles can be used in different scenarios and to address all kinds of behaviors, while focusing on connecting and meeting the needs of your child instead of reacting to their behaviors.
I hope that you can find a little bit of time to listen to this podcast. You can find and listen to the podcast HERE.
