Staff Spotlight- Ethiopia Senior Travel Coordinator: Yonas

We are so thankful to have Yonas as an important part of the team that serves America World families during their time in Ethiopia. Yonas has been with America World since 2010 beginning his work as a Travel Coordinator, and currently acting as our Senior Travel Coordinator.

Yonas manages the in-country travel experience, preparing itineraries for families, meeting and seeing families off at the airport, accompanying families to the Transition Home, Embassy, Court, shopping, sight-seeing excursions, and birth family meetings. In a typical day, Yonas may meet a family at the airport and check them in at the Guest House. On the court trip, he would then accompany families to the transition home for the much-anticipated moment of meeting their child. During that meeting, Yonas is a support to the family and assists with translation. He also escorts families to local food places, sight-seeing, traditional dinners, and answers their various questions about the country while helping them feel comfortable so far from home.

Yonas says, I am blessed to work for America World. I enjoy taking families to the Transition Home and spending time with the children.

I love all the children at the Transition Home and I enjoy playing soccer with them. I also like taking families sight- seeing. Whenever I take families to a museum, church or Entoto mountain, I guide them and tell them about the history of that place. I look forward to educating families on the history and culture of Ethiopia. I believe it is important for them to know since they are adopting from here.

We consistently hear from families what a wonderful experience they have had on their adoption trip, and Yonas’ service is such an important part of that in-country experience!
