“Where Am I From & Where Am I Going?”:
Support Groups for “Tweens” Starts THIS WEEK

Is your adopted child 10, 11, 12, or 13 years old?  Do they commonly get questions from peers about their adoption?  Did they struggle with the genetics unit in science class, or perhaps when history class discussed somewhat negative information about their country of origin?  Do they get mad at you and wish for different parents?  Have they begun to ask new questions about their history, or gone the other way and seemed to bury it deeper underneath a focus on Instagram, friends, sports, and clothes?   The “tweens” is common time for adopted children to grapple with their history, identity and future.

America World is excited to offer a support group for these kids to get together and talk about their worries, experiences, and dreams.  The group meets via videoconference where a small group of tweens and a leader can talk together on their computer, tablet, or smartphone.  During the group the kids will be encouraged to talk and learn, share their stories and struggles, ask questions, etc.  The leader will have some “ice breakers” and planned presentation/discussion format around common adoption issues.  The cost to participate is $25/session, with 3-session minimum purchase.

The TWEEN group will meet on Thursdays at 9pm EST (8 CST, 7 MTN, 6 PST), starting THIS WEEK, July 20, and each group will last about 1 hour.  Registration and payment for the  session is due by 5pm the day prior to a child’s first session, but we strongly encourage you to reach out to us sooner so we have ample time to schedule a parent introductory call.  Use this Registration Form  to sign up, or email ACT@awaa.org, or call 800-429-3369, for more information.
