America World’s ACT program is excited to offer two educational support groups that are starting next week!

“Reviewing and Implementing Successful Adoptive Parenting Strategies” is a 5-week series on Mondays at 8pm EST, from June 12 through July 10.  This group will walk through strategies in parenting younger adopted children with common issues in attachment, sensory and environmental needs, and discipline.  Each session will begin with an educational component including TBRI® principles, and then parents will have ample time to share their questions, challenges, and joys while receiving support and advice from the group and its leader.  The group is led by Samantha Fuhrman who has a Master of Social Work degree and currently serves as the Director of Social Services for America World’s New York office and Home Study Coordinator for the New Jersey office. Samantha has been working in the adoption field since 2012 and before that worked as a child and family therapist. She is a mother of three children, and her family is in the process of adopting their fourth child.  The cost to participate in this 5-week group series is $125.  Registration and payment is due this Friday, June 9, by 5pm.  Email ACT@awaa.org, or call 800-429-3369, for more information.

“Understanding Sensory Issues in Your Adopted Child” is a 3-session interactive webinar and support group on Tuesdays at 9pm EST from June 13 through June 27.  In this webinar group, you will learn how to identify sensory processing issues in your child.  Dr. Lynch Fannon will cover how sensory integration develops in all of us, and how it can turn into a dysfunction.  General strategies that can be used at home will also be presented, as well as other reputable resources.  Dr. Angie Lynch Fannon has a Clinical Doctorate in Occupational Therapy and has been practicing for over 15 years. She has worked in schools, clinics, homes, as well as overseas orphanages, group homes and centers for adults with disabilities. Her specialties include working with children with sensory processing disorder, autism, and those adopted from international orphanages.  The cost to participate in this 3-week group series is $75.  Registration and payment is due Monday, June 12, by 5pm.  Email ACT@awaa.org, or call 800-429-3369, for more information.
