Pre-Application or Application…What is the Difference?
April 14, 2015

America World offers a free pre-application in addition to the normal full application for adoption.  This sometimes confuses families who are ready to take that next exciting step to adoption so we want to help clarify.

For families who are ready to begin the adoption process, the full application is the route to go. The full application goes directly to our Intake department where our staff carefully reviews to be sure a family meets all of the qualifications to adopt from the country they choose.  The qualifications are listed on each country's "Requirements" page of our website, so families who meet those qualifications often breeze through the Intake process.  At times, more clarification is needed for things like finances or medical issues.  Once the full application is approved, the family is contacted by our Intake department and begins working with their America World Family Coordinator and social worker.

For families who are still discerning the adoption process and/or country decision, the free pre-application may be the route to go.  In this process, the pre-application gives our Intake department the key information they need to determine if the family qualifies, or what country/program they qualify for. Families are welcome to talk with the Intake department as well as the different programs’ staff to answer questions about the process and next steps. Once a family has decided on a country, the family then signs into our online application portal to begin the process.

A family’s application is valid for 6 months, after which new applications need to be completed again.  This is to be sure all information is current, which is important in the international adoption process.

If you are interested in moving forward with adoption through one of our programs/countries, we encourage you to visit our website and review the programs available. We believe that God has a plan for you and your family and if adoption is a part of that plan He will certainly guide you through each step and provide all you need.  Questions?  You can contact us at Info@awaa.org or call 800-429-3369 and we'll be happy to answer any questions you have.

"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you
and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
