Parenting an HIV-positive child
Among the many unknowns along the journey of international adoption is one beautiful truth: God knows His plan for you. For several families who have adopted or in the process of adopting from Ethiopia, His plan for them was to bring home an HIV-positive child. A country ravaged by this disease, Ethiopia has thousands of orphans, and many are HIV-positive.
These America World families share their experiences on a blog, www.preciousandpositive.wordpress.com. It is not just an encouraging account of God’s leading in their lives, but also educational. Did you know that HIV is considered a “chronic but manageable disease,†and with treatment, those affected can live “long and full lives?†These families have accepted a great responsibility, and have been abundantly blessed through their children. It is their desire, and ours, that more families would consider adopting HIV orphans.
Today is World AIDS Orphans Day, a movement that began in 2002 to raise awareness of over 15 million children orphaned by AIDS. Please pray and consider how you can actively support these precious children.
“I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.†John 14:18
