Meet the Social Worker: Amber Lewis
Today we are introducing a new series of blog posts to help you get to know our social workers. Social workers have a vital role during the adoption process of working with you through the home study and post adoption visits. Check weekly to meet a social worker from one of our 23 (and increasing) licensed states!
Amber Lewis, LPC, opened the America World office in Oklahoma in 2005. Prior to that, she worked at a boy's ranch at Texas A&M while obtaining her BA in Psychology. She then pursued her MS in Counseling Psychology from the University of Southern Mississippi, and since worked in child/adolescent day treatment and counseling for youth and adults. Peronally, Amber enjoys quilting and backpacking in the mountains.
Amber has four children, and one of whom is adopted from China. It was her enjoyment of the adoption process that led her to become an adoption social worker as America World sought licensure in Oklahoma.
Amber says, “I love working with the families and the challenge of helping them navigate the beautiful but sometimes very difficult waters of the adoption process and adoption parenting. Rely on God to give you all that you need, and stand on your faith in Him, and He will make even the hardest things be better than you ever could have imagined or hoped.”
Her office is in Stillwater, and she serves families in North Central OK. There are four other social workers (home study coordinators) that cover the rest of Oklahoma. The OK staff is there to support and help post adoptive families in any way they can. They provide the standard required post-adoption visits, and will talk you though issues you may be facing and help you find resources to deal with whatever may come up.
