Medical Needs in Our China Waiting Child Program
July 6, 2015

The America World China Waiting Child program currently works with a number of orphanage partnerships throughout four provinces in China. These orphanages are a part of the CCCWA’s one-to-one partnership program.

For these orphanages, AWAA provides the funding for medical exams for the children in their care. These medical exams cost between $80-100 per child. The medical exams are more involved than the common medical exam, since many of these children often times have complicated medical conditions or need specialized medical care. The medical exams include testing for Hepatitis B, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis C, Syphilis, HIV, and a full blood work panel. When required, additional tests including, but not limited to an MRI, CT scan, or Echocardiogram may also be involved. The tests necessary are determined based on each child’s specific medical condition.

Recently, we received a large number of child’s files that require these medical exams. We are hoping to be able to provide medical exams for 60 – 75 children immediately.  At $80-$100 per exam, this would be a $4,800 - $7,500 financial commitment.
