Loving Ambassador Child: Creative “Connie”
Connie is an outgoing, active 12-year old girl who is described by her caretakers as a little girl with a big personality! She underwent surgery just under 2 years of age for meningocele of her neck, and her caretakers noted a remarkable difference in her development and personality at that point. She was able to walk alone, begin doing things for herself, run, play with other kids outside, sing nursery rhymes, play games, and communicate clearly for the first time. Though her condition limits range of motion in her neck, she is noted to have flexible motions and quick reactions.
A Loving Ambassador team visited Connie in September 2019 and noted that she was shy, with bits of confidence shining through, and described her as observant, helpful, curious, and creative. She does well in school and often chooses to stay inside to study, rather than play outside with the other children. She is also most comfortable and relaxed with familiar people and settings, but she drew beautiful pictures and characters for the team and performed a dance she had memorized along with a song. Connie was examined by a doctor on the Loving Ambassador team who observed her to be playful and active, and though her short neck decreases her range of motion, she was noted to make up for it in other ways and was even seen jumping rope on one foot. Team members describe Connie as having a beautiful smile and dimple that could light up a room!
