India Waiting Child: “Andrew” Needs You
Meet Andrew, whose smile will melt your heart! This adorable little guy has Down syndrome and was born prematurely around 35 or 36 weeks. He had some complications as a result but is currently doing very well. It is also noted that he has a minor heart defect (VSD) and foot syndactyly.
Andrew was able to turn from his back to his stomach when he was 10 months. He is a happy, content and active baby. He is comfortable around adults he knows and is described as friendly towards strangers. He has not started to talk yet but smiles socially. He makes eye contact while interacting with others and responds to various sounds. Andrew expresses his emotions by crying when upset and needing something and smiles when happy.
He enjoys the attention of his caregivers and will cry when they leave the room. Andrew will seek out his caregiver when he is upset. While he is not yet able to play with the other children, he shows interest in them by looking at what they are doing or smiling while they play.
