India Program Need: Partner with Us to Provide Life-saving MANA!
Members of our India Program Staff hope to travel to India in the coming months. As in prior trips, we’re planning on providing several orphanages resources they need. One of the primary focuses of this trip is to provide MANA (Mother Administered Nutritive Aid), which is a specific type of ready-to-use therapeutic food (RUTF) to help treat children suffering from severe acute malnutrition (SAM).
According to the WHO, “severe acute malnutrition is a life threatening condition requiring urgent treatment. Until recently, the recommendation was to refer these children to a hospital to receive therapeutic diets along with medical care. The situation changed recently with the advent of ready-to-use therapeutic foods (RUTF) which allows the management in the community of large numbers of children who are severely malnourished above the age of 6 months without medical complications.â€
MANA is a fortified peanut paste that’s been carefully formulated to provide all of a child’s basic nutritional needs and to treat as well as prevent SAM. It’s served in a packet that’s easy for an orphanage caretaker to open and easy for a child to eat. Just three servings of MANA a day can save the life of a starving child.
Our staff would like to bring as much MANA as possible with us to India, but we need families to partner with us in providing this life-saving resource, as well as the cost of transport which can be significant. India program staff will work to supply the MANA to orphanages where we know there is a need and where we can partner with caretakers or doctors to properly administer the food.
To donate, please go to our AWAA donation page and select “General Fund†in the “Designated Fund†drop down, then add “MANA Fund for India†in the notes section.
(Funds raised beyond what is needed to purchase and transport the MANA will be used by our staff to purchase other donations [formula, clothing, etc.] for the orphanages we visit.)
Thank you for your support. We are so excited about all God is doing through our India program, and we look forward to meeting the practical needs these of children, even as they are still waiting for their forever families.
Regards,
India Program Team
