Easter Update
I want to use this blog to let families know about a policy statement regarding international adoption that America World Adoption supports; we’re hopeful many of you will be encouraged by this statement. America World Adoption has joined a coalition of adoption advocates, headed by Dr. Elizabeth Bartholet, Professor of Law & Faculty Director of the Child Advocacy Program at Harvard Law School, in support of International Adoption Policy Statement and Supporting Report. Dr. Bartholet is a strong supporter and advocate for orphans in need of a permanent family and it is a joy to add our voice to the many that have shown support this for Policy Statement. I encourage you to take the opportunity to read through this Policy Statement.
It was another busy week in our office. Families have recently got referrals from China, Ethiopia, Rwanda and Russia. I want to use this blog to remind families that Ukraine is open again to international adoption – so if you’re interested, please contact our Eastern Europe department.
Here in D.C., it has been very nice with the cherry blossoms blooming and Spring finally here. With Spring, Passover and Easter have come again – allowing us, the Church, to reflect upon Christ’s death and celebrate His resurrection. When the Apostle Paul wrote to the church in Corinth, he told them:
“…Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. Let us therefore keep the feast, not with the old leaven, the leaven of malice and evil, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.”
This is a meaning passage to me this Easter as I reflect upon Christ fulfilling the Old Testament need for a sacrifice for sins and how His sacrifice has given us the ability to lead lives of sincerity and truth.
America World’s main office will be closed tomorrow in observation of Good Friday. From all the staff, we wish you a very peaceful, happy and Christ-honoring Easter.
