Hair Love

“Hair Love”, an Oscar-Winning Short Film

I’m a white parent of a beautiful and vibrant Ethiopian son. When he became my son there was much to learn about properly caring for his skin and hair in a way that would make him proud, and also make the black community proud. When “Hair Love” an Oscar-winning short film, made its debut I most certainly felt all the feels and remembered my own journey toward loving my son in this very specific and honoring way.
As you’ll hear in the film: “You can make the journey with a little bit of work and a whole lot of love.”

Enjoy this beautiful short film here and challenge yourself in this area today. One of the best things we can do as a transracial adoptive family is learning to embrace and honor our children’s specific needs, even if they are very different from our own.
