Year-End Message From CEO

Dear Families-
I hope this finds you well!  I’m writing this year-end message to let you know how I have seen God’s work and blessings over the last year in regards to our agency.  My wife, Renée, and I continually look back at God’s work and provision to America World Adoption with amazement.  God truly has blessed us with a passionate staff, good partners and incredible, faith-filled adoptive families that care deeply about God’s children.  I want to share this new video our agency has created, designed simply to remind us that God builds families through adoption.
What Is Family
Many of you know that the overall number of international adoptions worldwide has been rapidly declining in the past decade.  There are many reasons for this and it certainly poses challenges to all agencies, including America World.  We support the efforts of advocacy groups like National Council For Adoption (NCFA) and the Christian Alliance For Orphans (CAFO) to seek structural reforms that would improve the U.S. government’s handling of intercountry adoptions.  In particular, the CHIFF legislation these advocacy groups are promoting will be a good first-step in changing the U.S. government’s role in working with adoptive families and foreign countries’ adoption authorities.
The worldwide slowdown in international adoptions has affected our agency as well.  Despite the slowdown, we are grateful that we’ve helped place over 200 children in 2013.  We know that each child and each family God joins together is immensely blessed.  At the same time, we know that each adoptive placement is also due to a tragedy that has already occurred, whether from an abandonment, birthparent death, birthparent relinquishment or other heartbreaking circumstance.  I’m so very proud of our agency’s work over the past year in providing counseling, compassion and care to all the parties involved, especially to birthfamilies and children.  Would you help join with us this next year in support of our work to promote family permanency work in Ethiopia?  Would you help support our work providing counseling to pregnant women in Virginia and Maryland seeking information about adoption?  Would you consider sponsoring a vulnerable child in Vietnam or Haiti?
With 2014 around the corner, we look expectantly to what God will do with our agency.  We look forward to partnering with you to help find families for children in need.   If your family has been blessed in 2013, would you consider a year-end gift to help bless families in 2014?  We cannot do our work without the generous support of orphan advocates such as you.
May the LORD richly bless you and your family in the New Year.
Brian Luwis
