Meet “Peter”, a Smart Boy with a Contagious Laugh
Peter is a sweet, inquisitive, active 10-year-old boy with the most joyful, contagious laugh! A Loving Ambassador team recently spent time with Peter in November 2019, and they absolutely fell in love with him. Team members describe him as very intelligent and articulate, with a very large vocabulary and good mental development and problem-solving skills.
Peter has been diagnosed with lumbar meningocele, though he has excellent functional mobility and is noted to be very detail-oriented and precise, completing cognition puzzles very quickly. He loves to read and shared that he wants to be a repairman and a scientist when he grows up. He impressed the team with his joyful and engaging personality, cleaning up after activities without being asked and even thanking the OT for helping him. They all describe him as incredibly cooperative, polite, and so sweet. The doctor who examined Peter noted that he’s an intelligent boy with good language skills and only minimal motor or self-care needs. He would do so well in a loving family!
Another team visited Peter in 2016 and described their sweet time with this darling little boy:
Outgoing with a fun personality, Peter stole my heart with his contagious laugh. During a break from completing our assessments, I grabbed a ball and began throwing it with him. He absolutely loved this and was squealing with joy as we tossed the ball back and forth over and over and over again. I think he would have done this for hours and frankly, I would have too, just to hear that beautiful laugh!
Peter has a best friend named Gideon in the orphanage who he is very close with. And although he spends a lot of time with Gideon, he also enjoys playing with other children as well. This precious boy is one smart cookie! When one of our team members showed him a “What is it?” book, he began sounding out the English words! He also can read Chinese characters and is learning how to write.
Although Peter has repaired spina bifida, he is very independent and capable of his self-care, his nannies say. He is adept at sorting, creating patterns, counting and other fine motor skills such as standing dominoes on end. He is so smart and eager to learn. He would be a wonderful addition to a family and is so eager to expand his horizons. There is no telling what his future holds if given the right tools and a family to love him. Peter is so full of joy and brings light and laughter to those he meets! We pray the Lord would set him in a family soon!
Please take a few minutes to consider how God would have you be a part of helping this precious child, whether that is through praying, advocating, or inquiring to learn more.
