China Adoption Program Update
Yesterday afternoon, we received an email from the U.S. Department of State noting that they had received a notification from the People’s Republic of China (PRC) Ministry of Civil Affairs (MCA) stating the following:
“…beginning August 28, 2024, except for foreigners adopting stepchildren and children of collateral relatives within three generations in China, civil affairs departments across China will no longer carry out foreign adoption work.”
The information we currently have is limited, and we will communicate when we know more.
In the meantime, we ask you to pray for the children and families affected by this announcement. We are deeply grieving for all our waiting China families who are heartbroken by this decision. These are families who have waited many years for their children to come home.
As a Christian organization, we stand on the sovereignty of a God who loves these children more than we possibly can, and we cling to the promise of our agency’s key verse:
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.” – Jeremiah 29:11
We pray this verse for China adoptive families and children today.
