China Adoption: 15-Month, Michaela, Needs a Family
Michaela is a sweet 15-month-old girl who enjoys playing with her nannies and is fond of listening to music! She is a cute little one who will smile at people and is able to distinguish between strangers and those she is familiar with.
While it is noted in her file that she has some motor development delays, she does know her name, gets excited when she sees her bottle, is able to help hold her bottle and eat some solid food independently. Michaela can also sit by herself, and is able to clap her hands. Her file states that she will turn and locate where different noises are coming from, will visually track people and toys and is able to grab and hold toys in her hand. Although her language development is also delayed, she can say “mama,” “papa,” and other simple words.
Michaela has the following congenital heart defects: Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF), VSD, PDA, PFO, and pulmonary atresia with developmental delays. It is noted in her file that her condition is postoperative. However, it is important to note that with TOF there is a high to definite likelihood she will need additional surgeries and potentially lifelong medical care from a cardiologist and/or pediatric heart surgeon. Based on feedback from doctors, her particular case of TOF and pulmonary atresia fall in a more severe/complex category which may include a genetic syndrome.
Michaela is from one of our partnership orphanages and her file has been designated by the CCCWA as a Special Focus child. An eligible family at any stage of the adoption process or just considering adopting from China is able to consider her adoption. We can also connect interested families with individuals who have visited her orphanage. Please contact us at China@awaa.org for more information.
