Carl Family China Adoption Story: Part 1

As America World staff, we love seeing each family’s adoption story as it uniquely unfolds and leads them to the greatly anticipated day of meeting their child for the very first time. The Carl family recently returned from China after completing their second adoption through America World’s China Program.  Jonathan & Brittany did a wonderful job documenting each day of their adoption trip through their personal blog.

We as staff enjoyed seeing a glimpse into what their process entailed in the days and moments leading up to meeting their daughter, Mia. Over the next several days, we will be sharing parts of their story and hope that you will be encouraged and challenged by their story of faith as they welcomed Mia into their family.

After many months of paperwork and hours of travel, Jonathan, Brittany, and one of their daughters, Sophia, arrived in China! The first couple of days of a family’s trip are set aside to experience the culture and sites of China while adjusting to the time change.

On their first full day in Beijing, Jonathan shared, “We hit the road about 8:30 am for a traffic-filled journey to the Great Wall, about an hour away from our hotel.  The mountains outside Beijing are beautiful (they’re hosting the 2022 Winter Olympics) and the area we visited of the Wall was impressive!”

They continued their sightseeing by visiting a jade factor, the Olympic Park, a silk factory and enjoying a traditional Peking Duck Dinner.

China Adoption Trip

As you can see, these first days in China are filled with memories and experiences that become a part of the story a family will share with their child in the years to come. We look forward to sharing more in the days ahead as the Carl family takes the next steps of their journey where they will meet Mia for the first time!
