America World on Mission, An engagement story

Our mission teams are currently on hold as we wait for the COVID-19 pandemic to settle and international travel to resume. Thankfully we were able to send early Spring teams and they have been home, safe and sound, for a few weeks now. Two team members who traveled with us had a very eventful trip in early March and they reached out to share their bit of happy news with all of us here at America World. We know that everyone can use a little positivity in these days, enjoy their sweet story and testimony below:

From Madi:

When I moved off to college, I had no idea that I would meet the love of my life just a month into the year. Trae and I instantly connected and were inseparable from that point on. In my opinion, the most important part of a relationship is keeping God in the center and putting Him first. Trae did exactly that by inviting me to his church every Sunday. I now consider it my church home. About three months into our relationship Trae gave me a little promise ring and told me that one day he would propose.

I’ve been serving in  missions my whole life and when I found out Trae’s mom helps lead America World teams, all the pieces fell together.  In March of 2019, we traveled with America World and it changed not only our lives for the better, but also our relationship. We viewed everything in a new light and our passion for missions as a couple grew stronger. The children at the home we serve loved us for who we were and we wanted to bring that perspective home with us. March of 2020, Trae fulfilled his promise and asked me to be his wife with all of the children and our team surrounding us. It was the most beautiful moment and I wouldn’t want to start a new chapter of our lives anywhere else. Our relationship truly shows how God works in mighty ways.

From Trae:

As I planned the proposal I enlisted our team leader Martha. Martha was able to tell Madi that we were just going to the top of the mountain to shoot a fundraising video for America World. I asked one of the girls from the children’s home to carry the special engagement shirts my mom had made because that little girl had a special connection with Madi. I asked another little boy, who had impacted my life deeply, to give the ring during the proposal. I had met this little guy a year before. Incorporating all the kids to sing How Great Thou Art made it even more special because when the kids sing you can feel the passion for the Lord in their voices. The whole idea was based around starting a new chapter of our lives the most correct and Godly way I could imagine. There isn’t a better place I could’ve proposed. I hope the kids understood that they all played an important role in our engagement, Madi and I can’t wait to visit next time as a married couple.
