After the Airport: Post Adoption Support and Resources
We recognize that the time before a family brings a child home is only a small portion of their adoption journey. While much preparation is done before a family brings their child home, we know it is difficult to prepare for everything and put into practice all that you have learned once a child is home. Post adoption issues are a normal part of the adoption process, and we encourage families to reach out to us, their social worker, or outside help like Focus on the Family for support during tough seasons.
One of our families recently wrote about their journey “after the airport†encouraging families to be honest about the reality of post-adoption struggles and to reach out for help and support. We encourage all our families to read her post, and reach out if needed.
We also would like to highlight that Focus on the Family has a large staff of trained professionals who are equipped to speak with parents about the issues their family is facing. The Focus on the Family Help Center counselors are available to listen and pray with you, as well as provide guidance and resources to help you and your family thrive. Arrange to speak with a licensed Christian counselor at no cost by calling 1-855-771 HELP (4357) Monday through Friday between 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. Mountain time.
